Discover the Best of Iceland with Icelandair's Self Drive Tours
Icelandair have four great self drive offers for travellers who want to experience the best of Iceland in their own time.

Visitors can pick tours to suit their budget which follow the Icelandic Ring Road (1450 km) that circles the entire island. Many major sights and accommodation can be found within easy reach of the road making it an ideal choice for the first time visitor. The circular route can be covered in a week but extra time allows a more leisurely journey with time to experience more places of interest and adventure activities along the way.

All tours are ex Reykjavik and include pre-booked accommodation, rental car with unlimited mileage (CDW*, VAT), suggested detailed itinerary, road map and transfers to and from Keflavik Airport by Flybus

DAY 1 – REYKJAVIK
Tour commences with individual check-in at accommodation. Remainder of day is at leisure.

DAY 2 – REYKJAVIK–GULLFOSS–GEYSIR– REYKJAVIK
A classic excursion to many of Iceland’s natural wonders. First to Hveragerdi where harnessed geothermal power has permitted a greenhouse industry, where fruit, vegetables and exotic plants flourish under glass. Then to Kerid, a lake-fil- led extinct volcanic crater, before continuing to Skalholt, site of an ancient bishopric. Onwards to Gullfoss waterfall, perhaps the most beautiful in the country. Then continue to the Geysir area where hot springs are in abundance, the active ones likely to spout every few minutes. DAY 3 – REYKJAVIK
All day at leisure. (B)

DAY 4 – REYKJAVIK–AKUREYRI–LAKE
Morning flight of less than one hour to Akureyri, the cultural and commercial centre of the north. On arrival join the coach and head for Lake Myvatn stopping enroute at Godafoss falls. Then off on a sightseeing tour around the lake – a bird sanctuary with one of the largest concentra- tions of breeding ducks in the world, an oasis of life at the edge of a large desert. To Dimmuborgir with its amazing and grotesque lava formations, and on the lake itself, numerous perfectly shaped pseudocraters. Across Namaskard to sulphur pits and boiling mud pools, Krafla power plant and the lake-filled crater Viti, where Iceland’s most recent lava formations are visible. A late afternoon flight to Reykjavik completes a most adventurous day. (B)

DAY 5 – REYKJAVIK
Tour concludes after breakfast. (B)
